“From War Comes Beauty”
A special service of reflection and remembrance was organised by the Falkland Islands Government and held in St Feth’s Chapel at St Paul’s Cathedral in London on 5th April 2022 to mark the 40th anniversary of the Falklands War. HRH Princess Anne joined veterans in a ceremony to honour those who fought and died in the Falklands.
The war began on 2nd April 1982 when Argentine troops invaded the British-ruled Falkland Islands in the South Atlantic. The Task Force was composed of 100 ships sent from the UK to retake the islands; after ten weeks of conflict, they succeeded.
The task force carried a reinforced operational 3 Commando Brigade Royal Marines (3 Cdo Bde RM) with 2nd and 3rd Battalions, the Parachute Regiment, and other units, including a reinforced Troop from the Blues and Royals under the command of Brigadier Julian Thompson, RM.
Peter Farrington’s latest book, “From War comes Beauty”, tells the story of the conflict and the rebuilding of the Falkland Islands after the war in 1982.
“I wanted to show through my photography the rejuvenation of the Falklands from the scars of war into Islands of beauty. The return of the wildlife and the arrival of tourists flocking to see this amazing part of this British Overseas Territory”. – Peter Farrington CrGP
